Check the Statements That Sound Like You

Signs Medicare Advantage may fit you

  • I want the lowest monthly premium possible, ideally $0
  • I am comfortable using a network of doctors and getting referrals when needed
  • I would like dental, vision or hearing benefits built into one plan
  • I mostly stay local and do not travel out of state often
  • I am fine with copays that change depending on the care I use

Signs Medicare Supplement may fit you

  • I want the most predictable monthly cost, even at a higher premium
  • I want to see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare, with no network
  • I travel often or split time between two states
  • I have ongoing health needs and want fewer surprise bills at the doctor
  • I am in my Initial Enrollment Period and want guaranteed issue pricing while it lasts

What Your Answers Point To

Mostly the first column

A Medicare Advantage plan is worth a close look. We check which plans include your doctors and your pharmacy before you commit to a network.

Mostly the second column

A Medicare Supplement policy paired with a standalone Part D plan is worth comparing. We shop several carriers for your rate on the plan letter that fits, usually F, G or N.

A fairly even split

Most people land here. This is the kind of decision worth twenty minutes with a local independent agent rather than a guess.

Before You Decide

Three Things We Check With You

A checklist result is a starting point. These three are what actually decide the answer.

Your doctors

We run every doctor you want to keep against each plan network in Knox County, including the specialists you only see once a year.

Your prescriptions

Drug formularies change every January. We price your current list against each plan rather than reading the premium alone.

Your total cost for the year

Premium plus deductible plus the copays you would actually use. The cheapest premium and the cheapest year are often two different plans.

Common Mistakes

What People Get Wrong

Picking on premium alone

A $0 premium plan can cost more across a year than a Medigap policy once copays and the out of pocket maximum are counted.

Assuming a plan carries over

Networks, formularies and copays can change each January. The plan you liked last year may not be the same plan this year.

Waiting past the window

Medigap is guaranteed issue during your Initial Enrollment Period. Later on you may have to answer health questions to switch.

Buying from one company

A single carrier agent shows you one company’s plans. Independent means plans from multiple carriers in Knox County are on the table.
